Itajaí Brazil

Itajaí is a coastal city in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, located at the mouth of the Itajaí-Açu River on the state’s north-central coast. It has the second-largest gross domestic product and the highest per capita income in Santa Catarina. The city is known for its beaches—such as Molhes, Atalaia, Jeremias, Cabeçudas, Morcego, Brava Beach, and Solidão—as well as natural scenery and a cultural heritage shaped by Portuguese and German immigrants. A popular attraction is the Parrot’s Beak, a 6-meter-tall rock formation shaped like a parrot. Itajaí has a passenger pier used for coastal traffic and customs operations, and hosts Marejada, a major annual festival celebrating fishing, seafood, and Azorean traditions. The city is home to Nautical Club Marcílio Dias, active in both soccer and competitive rowing. Itajaí has been a host port for major sailing events, including serving as the finish for the 2013 Transat Jacques Vabre and a stopover for the Volvo Ocean Race in 2012, 2015, and 2018. Air service is provided by Ministro Victor Konder International Airport in the neighboring city of Navegantes. Marejada has been held every October since 1987.
